I read the book myself. It's an excellent read and I share your enthusiasm in recommending it. However, I think he is indicating that a multi trillion dollar disaster is down the road. He made many recommendations as to what should be done to avert further crisis. I do not feel that much (hardly anything) has been done to stop the speculation that played so large a role in the current economic crisis. Certainly none of his ideas seem to have gained any traction.
The book's one trillion dollar initial estimate was a result of it being published too early in the crisis. I strongly suspect either a sequel or a revised edition will be out soon.

As per http://euandus3.wordpress.com/2009/12/03/skipping-stones-what-about-the-foreclosures/ , I think it is telling that the Treasury department is not advocating that the proceeds be used to reduce the number of foreclosures. In fact, Treasury had noted such an alternative in its "break the glass" TARP proposal in April 2008 (before Sept!). I suspect the power of the banking lobby explains this.

Fantastic web site you have here. I love reading on the web about Dubai and the UAE! It's such a wonderful place. I don't have time to read all the articles here right now, I found this site when looking for something else on Ask.com, but I've bookmarked your homepage and will check back soon to see the latest news. My brother and I used to live in Dubai, and we still have many happy memories. Visit my site if you'd like to read more. Thanks again for a very enjoyable website. Have a great weekend!
